Viewfinder Documentary

Viewfinder follows American tourists traveling through Rajasthan, one of India’s poorest provinces, as well as the filmmaker observing their journey. The producers required cover art for promotional materials, including posters and DVD packaging, that respected the local culture while reflecting the tourists’ perspective.

The design centers on a black-and-white photograph of young girls from Rajasthan, layered and fragmented to create a sense of observation and partial understanding. Their eyes are left in color, drawing focus and hinting at awareness and humanity beyond the tourists’ perspective. The composition, layering, and selective color emphasize the barrier between what is seen and the deeper essence of the communities, aligning the artwork conceptually with the layered narrative of the film. The result is promotional imagery that is visually compelling, thoughtful, and respectful, reinforcing the documentary’s perspective and themes.
